Cycling Trip to Jurassic Mile @ Singapore Changi Airport

 It was a fun workout, on my newly acquired Carryme bike. Started to accustom to cycling after 8~9 years of not cycling... When reached East Coast Park, sad to see the East Coast Food Village will be out for renovation till March next year (if I remember correctly). Made a few stops as soon as I felt uncomfortable, so the overall journey is quite smooth. And also good opportunity to capture good views on my phone camera...

Reached the signage to go to Jurassic Mile after some time... not that long in distance actually but I had only 8 inch wheels so was longer time...

Reached the entrance of the Jurassic Mile! As it was a week day, not many visitors were there...

Good to have nets to protect from flying golf balls, but the net also made the view a bit fuzzier..

I wonder how the snail got up to such height...

Sister-in-law suggested on whatsapp can go to Hub and Spoke, so I venture off, with a distance of about 2.2 km (+ -) to cover, to explore what might be there...

Super hilarious dinosaur...

Had an expensive brunch, total about SGD17.90... Maybe should have tried their local food type... seemed cheaper, but its ok, still not too bad... More important to enjoy the atmosphere to dine... But the birds there are super bold, they are not afraid of people, so maybe better to dine indoors...

Off to journey to search for MRT.... and finally found after walking long long time... Remember to go to LEVEL 3, easier to walk to MRT... I think...

Carryme Folding Bike Bicycle

My early Christmas present that I bought for myself.  I recently chanced upon a Xiaomi folding bike that looked very compact, and it ramp up my biking wants suddenly. Then realised that is an electric bike, which I think is not so "multi-purpose" when using it as personal transport in Singapore, with the recent cooling down of PMD (electric ones) on footpaths etc. Bicycle still remains the top of choice if one wants to use it on walkpaths, roads etc, and no need to register or such. Then I started searching for folding bikes on the internet, while the bad memories of a fake A-bike I bought many years ago came back. Chanced upon this Carryme, which claimed to be 1 of the lightest folding bike (I think Hummingbird folding bike may be lighter) and compact. What captures my attention is the small wheels and walking-cane-looking fold up mode. This means I no need to carry it but can trolley (roll) it around when folded. Nice to have when walking around at places that cannot cycle. Also, I wanted to try to go to Jurassic Mile but realised that "hiking" to the place may be a bit too time-taking. So after a day of deliberation, I decided to buy 1.  Sadly the red and dark blue colour are out of stock, so opted for the sky blue one.  Cost GD999 which is pretty expensive for a bicycle with so small wheels but hey, this is but a fraction of my money saved from not travelling this year, so is pretty ok.  Plus, the dsmall wheels and single speed means I will have a better workout when using it, nice... Took some time to readjust to cycling, after an absence of about 8~9 years... Maybe if can use for good, I may consider to stop using car and instead cycle to MRT station and to work next time... though rain is still a major consideration....

Kusu Trip 30th October 2020

 Went on the annual Kusu Trip last month... sort of a short getaway trip from work, after a few months of long, continuous and super tedious stress... Let the picture do the talking...

Did not realised there is such a tree despite numerous trips to this island...

Please do look out for these little millipedes while walking, if possible, and not to trample on them. There are a lot of these on the ground in Kusu Island especially near and behind the food centre. Perhaps do avoid touching or picking them up too, as they may release cyanide as self-defence, not very sure. Again, my most sincere appeal, please do avoid stepping on them while walking, as much as possible please, thank you thank you.

I remember last time long ago when there was no food centre, some people will sell food and beverages at a super costly price. I remembered 1 time when we ordered 4~5 plates of steamed fried beehoon (no ingredients) and about 3 cups of black kopi-o (black coffee), it cost SGD20+. And that was about 30 ++ years ago. So was very glad to see this food centre being set up, with the price so much much more affordable (SGD 3.50 char kway teow fried on the spot and SGD 3.80 for the "Good Fortune" coconut drink). Sadly, due to the COVID-19 situation, the place is not as bustling as previous years...

Also visited the Singapore Maritime Museum, but will not post pics as quite lazy already.

Old Tu Kee Smelly Tofu 老涂记臭豆腐 @ Bugis Food Street

Tried "urban-hiking" from Bedok to Bugis, along the MRT track path. Quite fun. Stopped at Bugis Food Street to try out the Old Tu Kee Smelly Tofu 老涂记臭豆腐. Ordered the mixed (pickled vegetables plus Cumin powder). Cost (if I remember correctly) SGD6 for 5 pieces of tofu. Hmm... Anyway, the smell. The smell is not the strong stinky type but has a lighter aroma with (I think probably) some herbal ingredients when fermenting. I may be wrong, but it does smell smelly-good. Tofu is fried to a good crisp, and internal quite soft. Quite nice! The pickled vegetables are nice, and works well together with the chilli sauce on top of tofu. But the cumin powder , while very nice, is poured onto a tad too much, and tends to snatch the focus away from the tofu. End up scraping quite some cumin powder off left uneaten. After a good protein-filled breakfast, I took the train back home.

Zi Hai Guo Self Heating Rice : Potherb Mustard and Braised Pork (Clay)Pot Rice 自嗨锅 自热米饭 : 雪菜扣肉煲仔饭

Cost around SGD4.40 for a bowl. A bit pricey. I ordered the Meigan (Mei) Cai and Braised Pork 梅菜扣肉 flavour but it sends me this flavour instead. The "rice" is recomposed rice with added corn starch, konjac, etc. Overall taste is good, but not much meat. Think of it as good as more greens are taken in by the body. Rice is chewy.  Also bought 3 other flavours ( Braised Chicken and Mushroom 香菇滑鸡, Taiwanese Braised Pork 台式卤肉饭, Cantonese Style Sausage 广式香肠 ) which tasted better than this one.

 

CP Gourmet : Chicken Green Curry with Rice ( Frozen Ready Meal )

 Bought from Fairprice Xpress Esso kiosk at a price of SGD9 for 2 packets. I microwaved for a minute more than the stated time, just in case the curry sauce does not get warm enough  Chicken meat is tender, curry has a slightly sweet taste with good spiciness, rice is still moist.  Portion of curry sauce can be  a bit more. Not bad, if considered at this discounted price.

 

Ichiran Instant Ramen Hakata-Style Straight Thin Noodle 一蘭ラーメン 一蘭拉麺

 Bought this 2-packet kit from Esso's FairPrice Xpress at sale price of SGD18.90... which is actually only a dollar less than the original price... anyway, never eaten this before and decided to try it... Soup is quite salty and the chilli powder adds a bit of punch to the taste of soup... Speaking of the soup taste, it strangely reminds me of some salty childhood snack that I cannot recall what it really is... Noodles are quite nice, but I felt it is about the same level as that of those Marutai instant ramen (3 portions in 1 packet type) ... Added some 7-11 Hanjuku eggs and instant teriyakai sauce chicken meat on skewers to my meal... Will I buy this noodles again... Hmmm... probably not, not in the near future anyway...
