Revisit to Chiew Kee Noodle House - Soy Sauce Chicken Noodles, Dumpling Soup

Had brunch last Sunday at this place (32, Upper Cross Street) again... The taste is addictive, hahahaha....

I ordered the "1 noodles and 1 soup", and gotten this... at $5... which means if the noodles is $3.50, the dumpling soup is $1.50... which I believe should be the 1-pax portion (of 3 dumplings) instead of the $5 à la carte version... which works out to be $0.50 per dumpling... which I believe is much worth than a cup of drink... which I will order for as long as they don't get me to order the à la carte instead, hahahaha... (

Here we go: (1) Springy (QQ) noodles with a bit of crunch, (2) sauce is mix of rich savoury with slightly more sweet than salty, (3) chicken is tender, skin is the best part, with the smooth texture soaked with the soy sauce gravy (卤汁) which is also slightly more skewed towards the sweet side than salty, (4) Remember to dip the chicken meat into the watery sweet-sour chilli sauce a bit (not too much as this might cover the meat taste)... Solid!!!!!!

The dumpling soup.... Soup itself is quite...normal, and I think they did add a bit of the soy sauce gravy in to try to enhance the taste... but the dumpling is nice! Very packed and filled with meat, bits of water chestnuts, and bits of chinese mushrooms really increase the taste and especially the texture when chewing... Good combi with the noodles... Ad like I say, I will keep this combi for subsequent orders, until they force me to buy the à la carte dumpling soup, hahahahahahahaha.....

Christmas Decorations Along Orchard Road 2015...

Sushi Express @ Bedok Point

The newly opened Sushi Express at Bedok Point replaces Kung Fu Paradise originally there... And with it, there are now a total of 3 restaurants that sells sushi in Bedok Point... It's selling point is of course the $1.50 per plate sushi, on conveyor belt...

The restaurant is located on the ground floor, just at the main entrance... The wall deco is cute...

The variety comes in batches as the staff prepares a few types for a certain time period, and then repeats with a different variety set after that... Or at least that is what we observed that day... Is the food nice?? Well, it is not too bad! Beyond our expectation. Do try the clam (???) slices, they give a very nice fragrance while chewing in the mouth... Other than sushi, they also have things like salad, mini cream puffs, blueberry cheescake, sushi-ingredients on plate without the rice, etc... but may depend on the availability on the day itself...

The utensils, soy sauce are at the side of the wall, should you choose/able to sit at the tables, and the tea is free flow... There is a time limit of 50 minutes per visit, but not sure if it is only on weekends or throughout the week... Oh, you do need to add GST and service charge to the total bill amount...

Mini Crab...

Mum found this little fella some time ago when cleaning and packing some prawns bought from the supermarket... yeap, already DOA ...

Tandoori Cafe @ Blk 216 Bedok North Street 1 Hawker & Food Centre ...

The hawker centre is closed for washing from 17 Nov to (20 or 21) November 2014, so after then can go and eat... I want to recommend the "2 NAAN KEEMA" set that cost $4 (see the small sign to the left of the one with "NASI BIRYANI")...

Our usual request to the stall owner is to change the curry to the chick-pea gravy... very very very very nice, and also the chick peas add texture when munching... Do be prepared to wait a bit, as the owner will only prepare and bake the naan upon ordering... The naan is fluffy inside and crisp outside, and not overly baked until burnt... The naan also has the nice fragrance of the flour (面粉香) ...

Dim Sum @ Canton Paradise (Bedok Mall)

Went over to Canton Paradise at Bedok Mall yesterday for Mum's birthday feast part II...

The food we ordered...

First to be served is the Mango Prawn Roll... Not sure if the kitchen staff just take the frozen food out and immediately dump into slightly overheated oil, this dish looks a little too brownish.. and the inside fillings is ... at room temperature... which I eat about 1 minute after the dish was served... a bit disappointed... but looking forward to the rest... Taste wise is still not too bad...

The rest of the dishes came pretty fast... Clockwise from top: Mini Egg Tarts, Dry Wanton Mee, Crispy Char Siew Buns, Prawns Chee Cheong Fun... The mini egg tarts taste quite ok, nothing super special but relatively stable... The other 3 are amazingly good. The sauce for the wanton mee is above average from those typical sold in other places, very flavourful and savoury. The noodles are cooked to quite bouncy. Wanton is a bit small but nice. The crispy char siew buns have a '菠萝包' top skin and the inner char siew taste good too, though a little on the dry side. The prawns chee cheong fun is amazing, with a super nice and fragrance sauce. Dad says they use the light soy sauce mix with sugar and did not cook it, hence the fragrance of the sou sauce is not lost...

From top: Siew Mai, Pork Innards Porridge, Har Kaw. Again quite wonderful. Though not the best har kaw and siew mai we had tasted, these are certainly way above average compared to many. The porridge is amazing. The texture of the porridge itself is smooth and creamy, with the rice grains almost grind-ed/cut to tiny bits, and this type of porridge is my favourite... I remember my first time having this type of porridge is at Crystal Jade in Parkway Parade... This is the equivalent... Nice... Will love to return for more in the future, hahahaha....

Brunch @ Koufu Changi City Point

Long overdue post... Went over to a R&R early brunch in end August with parents at Changi City Point... We went to Koufu at 2nd Level and decided to order 1 dish each to share and then get 1 more to share... My mum decided to get the Hakka Grinded Tea Rice, which is also the first dish we tuck in, thinking that the flavour should be the lightest... but we were wrong... The 九层塔leaves might have been added a little too much, and it snatches away the flavours of the other ingredients... Else, it taste quite good... My mum also side-dished a plate of Hakka Tau Foo and Hakka fried egg, which taste ok, normal...

Next is the Bibimbap which I ordered. Quite nice, but felt the sea kelp (???) can be cut to thinner slices... Will definitely order again next time... The side dishes are typically small-portioned and so-so...

The 3rd dish we makan is the Nasi Briyani that my dad gotten. Again, taste is quite ok but nothing super outstanding...

We also ordered a 笼 of Har Kau and Siew Mai each... The Har Kau is good!!! At least to my liking... The prawns are of reasonable size and surprisingly crisp... sorry, succulent... The Siew Mai is not as good though... Maybe we are too pampered by the dim-sum stall "Neptune" in Marine Parade... Hahaha...

After a couple of hours of walking and window shopping, we decided to have a short break before heading back home. We went to Hong Kong Sheng Kee Dessert and gotten some snacks, including the Fried Fish Skin, which is surprisingly GOOD... Crispy and 酥, it is so nice to go with drinks during chit-chats with family or friends... The topping seem to be like meat floss with 酸梅 or 金桔 sauce, which helps to relieve the heaviness taste of fried food... Only complain will be the slight hint of slightly overly-reused oil used to fry the fish skin...

My own dessert is the black sesame paste with glutinous rice balls... Quite nice... Of course, it can't beat the one in Chinatown, hahaha....

Clip-on Spectacles...

Bought these 2 pairs of clip-on spectacles at Daiso Chinatown Point today... The left is sunglasses (claiming to have 1% or less of UV ray transmissivity), while the right is reading glass of index +1.5 (think is too high for me... maybe next time get a lower number one)... Will need to trim the sunglasses... too big... Bought the sunglasses for reminiscence sake, as I remember when I was very young, I also got a similar pair... and quite fun...

Chinatown Trip and Visit to Buddha Tooth Relic Temple Last Sunday

Mid Autumn Festival is coming...

Sunday (30th of the lunar 7th month) was also the birth day of Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha, hence there was some ceremony in the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple in Chinatown. I was also pleasantly surprise to see a new exhibition gallery in Level 3... Of course you should not miss viewing the relics and Buddha tooth...
