Prima Taste - Singapore Curry Whole Grain La Mian

Hmmm, if I can buy the super expensive Taiwan instant noodles, how can I not support my own country's??!! hahaha... So I finally tried Prima Taste's instant noodles... After much hard thinking and consideration (???!!!), I decided to get the Singapore Curry Whole Grain La Mian, as I had already bought a laksa flavor one (Tseng Rice Noodles)... When I cooked it the first time, I find the noodles smelled a bit of "foul oil smell" (油耗味), and after eating, I felt the curry is quite nice, but I also find the noodles a bit "brittle", as in not chewy... Perhaps I had really been too pampered by the Taiwan instant noodles... So today I cooked it together with some tau-pok and fish cake... I reduce the noodles by 1/3 and added some instant rice noodles bought at Prime supermarket... The result is now a solid bowl of curry beehoon-noodles!!!! The rice noodles (beehoon) adds much to the chewy texture, and the rich curry flavor brings the meal to a wonderful level. Could have added a bit more water than the recommended 500ml, as the rice noodles soaked up quite a bit of the water... Nice!!!!!! Hahahaha...

Tseng Rice Noodles 曾粉 - Seafood Laksa Flavor 海味叻沙

I think I am getting lazy to film cooking videos already, hence probably, there will be a long time I will not be putting up such videos, hahaha... Ok! First I tried the Tseng Rice Noodles 曾粉 - Shallot Flavor 紅蔥肉燥 (dry version) one, man, that is quite awesome!!! The noodles are very thin, and reminds me of the rice noodles fried I had in Taiwan... There are little bits of vegetarian meat bits to add to the chewing feel... very nice... After a few days, I tried the Tseng Rice Noodles 曾粉 - Seafood Laksa Flavor 海味叻沙, and added some imitation crab sticks, pork balls, and chikuwa to it.. I added too much water, hence the soup seem a bit watery, but fragrance is still there... Frankly, I don't think this taste like laksa... Or rather I should say, this does not really taste like Singapore's laksa (normal type nor Katong type)... perhaps it is supposed to be in the other types of laksa line... maybe adding some chopped laksa leaves might help but.. anyway, still a good bowl of rice noodles!!! Nice!!!!

Taiwan Food Haul December 2017 - Part 4 and 5 ...

Collected my haul 4 and 5 of Taiwan Foodies a few days ago and yesterday!!! I must be crazy!!!! Hahahahaha... Price is a definitely steep, but I must say many of the stuff are very good, else I will not be buying repeatedly... In fact, I think I am now pampered by the chewy Tseng, Da Jia and Mom's chewy noodles so much that I find the other noodles getting not as tasty anymore... hahahaha... They are not the usual oil-fried instant noodle, and the seasonings are not the powdered type (which reminds me of chemicals, hahahaha... ), and hence I think they are much healthier, especially if vegetables, eggs, meat are added, then they seem to be no different to those noodles sold in noodle stalls at hawker centres / kopi-tiams...

A-Sha Dry Noodles ( Tainan ): Oil Onion Flavour Instant Noodles 阿舍乾麵 ( 台南麵 ) 油蔥

As my personal preference for noodles is that they should be bouncy and chewy, I don't really like the thin round noodles in this A-Sha Dry Noodles ( Tainan ):  Oil Onion Flavour 阿舍乾麵 ( 台南麵 ) 油蔥... Thought I might have cooked a little too long to cause the noodles to lose the bounciness, hence after making this video, I cooked a 2nd pack with much shorter time... This time the noodles are less soft but still not bouncy... I probably will combine the "Other Province" noodles with this "Tainan" sauce... Hope the Tseng beehoon will not be disappointing...

Mom's Dry Noodle - Ma La Flavour 老媽拌麵 麻辣

Trying out the Mom's Dry Noodle - Ma La Flavour 老媽拌麵 麻辣 which is also the only Mom's Dry Noodle 老媽拌麵 flavour in ezBuy's website... And I like the noodle's shape, very similar to Tseng Noodles 曾拌麵 but a bit less wide... The fragrance of the flour in the noodles does not lose out to that of Tseng Noodles 曾拌麵 too... But the taste is .... ( almost ) exactly the same as that of the instant mala pot I tried earlier !!!!!! Hahahaha.... But it is less spicy compared to the instant mala pot, and I think is much better, hahaha... This is joint 2nd on my favourite Taiwan noodle list (No. 1 is the Tseng Noodle, and the other joint 2nd is the Da Jia Noodle ) ...

A-Sha Dry Noodles ( Other Provinces ) : Sha-Char Flavour Instant Noodles 阿舍乾麵 ( 外省麵 ) 沙茶

Trying another Taiwanese dry noodles, this time is the A-sha brand. Never tried 沙茶 before, so bought this to try... Taste is very similar to the canned 豆豉鲮鱼 fermented black soybeans and dace, and while I love that canned fish, I just cannot translate the taste into noodles...

Taiwan Food Haul December 2017 - Part 2 and 3 ...

Collected my 2nd and 3rd Taiwan food haul these few days... Bought some new noodles, "metal"-eggs, and also repurchases of the Tseng Noodles and nougat biscuits... waiting for Part 4 to come, hahaha....

Shine Korea and Mijyi Haul...

Went to Kallang Leisure Park today and gotten quite some stuff from Shine Korea and Mijyi... Here's the food haul... Oh, not in picture includes a packet of Assam Milk Tea (Mijyi; $1) , which is already well in my stomach long time ago...

(Shine Korea) Not sure if the drinks are good or not, the the pictures are very cute... 1 each for my little nephew, niece and me... Cost $1.30 for the Paldo Pororo and $1.80 each for the Lotte Pokemon... funny thing is that both brands have the same type of bottles...

(Mijyi) Gotten this 3 packs of MRE (Meal-Ready-To-Eat) from Ottogi. I saw from some online reviews that the meatball types are made from chicken meat, and hence I bought them. Then after checking the translated Ottogi website, I realized they added beef stuff inside as seasoning and such... Hmm... anyway, I will still eat them as I don't believe in the belief of pray to Goddess Guanyin (aka Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara) cannot eat beef (which I think my parents believe in, sort of...), and also I felt to throw them away is a wastage of food... hmmm... anyway, will probably eat them silently in my room, hahahaha... The sweet-chilli chicken costs $3.50 and the other 2 costs $2 each...

(Shine Korea) Gotten these 2 Crown products... They are also available through ezBuy but I think at a slightly higher price...

The Cham Grain Sandwich Biscuits has milk cream as the "filling", and costs $1.70. Biscuits taste a bit "raw" but only slightly, probably due to the multi-grains(???)... The milk cream filling is quite good though... Overall quite nice...

The Churros snack has a nice cinnamon fragrance and is quite crunchy... I tried eating with coffee, and also tried with ice-cream (like the one I had in Genting's Street Churros)... quite nice too!! ... Costs $2.20...

(Shine Korea) This Sempio braised anchovies costs $4.90... it is also available through ezBuy; and again I think it is at a slightly higher price...Coincidentally, my father prepared bibimbap tonight, so this was used as a side-dish too... Initial smell is a bit of "plasticky", but I think is because of the anchovies and such being cooped up in the tiny can for a long time... Quite ordinary taste, though when chewed for some time, the nice taste of anchovies will slowly appear in your mouth... quite ok, but due to the price, I probably will not be buying it again...

Sweet candies time... Have not tried the Lotte Yogurt Jelly candy (Shine Korea; $1.90) yet, hopefully will be good...

(Mijyi) The Morinaga Pop-corn Flavor milk candy is from Taiwan, and costs $1... It is supposedly a limited time edition flavor, but I realized quite a few Youtube reviewers don't really like the taste... I find it quite ok though, tastes like sweet corn flavoured milk candy.. but of course, I also probably will not buy it again... The packaging and drawings at the inner box are interesting...

...and now then I realized I did not take individual pictures of the 5 bags of snacks in the last row of the first picture... hahahaha...

Nissin no Donbei Tempura Soba 日清のどん兵衛 天ぷらそば Instant Bowl Noodles

Cost $4.30 at NTUC Fairprice Finest... Again, high hopes may have caused a high expectation... The soba is a bit too brittle, not sure why, and the soup powder smells very nice but after pouring in hot water it loses the fragrance and turns into another smell... The tempura is quite crispy but the taste is a bit heavy on the "fishiness"... Overall is still quite ok, though I think I will try out other flavors next time...

Da Jia Stirred Noodles 大甲乾麵 - Sesame Sauce 麻醬 Instant Noodles

About 1.5 hours after eating the Tseng Noodles 曾拌麵 - Scallion With Sichuan Pepper Flavor 香蔥椒麻 , I cannot resist the temptation and cooked the other instant noodles : Da Jia Stirred Noodles 大甲乾麵 - Sesame Sauce 麻醬 . This noodles are also non-fried, and the shape has a uncanny resemblance to Juzz's Mee noodles... I cooked for about 4 minutes... Turns out the noodles are VERY CHEWY and quite fragrance!!!!! Nice!!!! The sesame sauce is quite good, though I may have too high expectations as I had never tasted 麻醬 before, so I did not get too agitated when I smelled the sesame sauce... In fact, it reminded me of the dessert black sesame paste powder... hmmm, I must be crazy, hahaha!!!! Portion is also quite big compared to the usual instant noodles but slightly lesser than Tseng Noodles... Will definitely want to try its other flavours next time, despite its high price of SGD13.60... I am insane x2 ... hahahahaha....

Tseng Noodles 曾拌麵 - Scallion With Sichuan Pepper Flavor 香蔥椒麻 Instant Noodles

Taiwan Food Haul December 2017 - Part 1 ...

Collected my Taiwan food haul part 1 today via ezBuy (yeap, the one that recently got into a collision with Taobao... ) , and quickly feasted on the food, hahahaha...

First is the Tseng Noodles 曾拌麵 - Scallion With Sichuan Pepper Flavor 香蔥椒麻 , which had a very unique noodle shape, and the centre of the non-fried noodle strand seem to be slightly thicker, probably for the al dente texture... I cooked for 5 minutes, then added about a minute more as I am worried the noodles too hard...Turns out the noodles are VERY VERY CHEWY and has a strong flour fragrance!!!!! Awesome!!!! The spiciness 辣 and spicy-numbness 麻 is mild even after I added all the spicy oil after the video shoot, which is good and best is it is very very fragrance!!!! Portion is also very big, compared to the usual instant noodles... Will definitely want to try its other flavours next time, despite its high price of SGD13.50... I am insane.. hahahahaha....

And this snack is good!!! The brand is Cherry Granfather. Spring-onion crackers with nougat fillings... nice.. though the cracker is not that crispy, I think the cracker being softer a little bit is actually easier for the mouth to bite into and tear away... The crackers are savoury with a strong spring-onion fragrance, and the nougat filling is sweet, so combining the savoury-sweet together is a winning formula!!!! Very nice... This one cost SGD10.90 per box and contains 12 pieces...

Nissin ( Thailand ) Cup Noodles - Seafood Creamy Flavour

Nope, I did not write wrongly, it says "seafood creamy" on the cup... Again, this is the Thailand version which I bought from the value shop at 70 or 80 cents, and comes with a fork... As with its Tom Yum Saab counterpart, I barely taste the creaminess, and the ingredients are quite little but for the price, it is well worth it! The taste is not overly strong, which is what I will prefer especially when I just want to have a light meal.

Acecook - Oomori Ika Yakisoba ( Yakisoba With Squid ) Instant Bowl Noodles エースコック スーパーカップ 大盛りいか焼そば

Costs about $4.20 in NTUC Fairprice... Taste is quite nice, with the usual yakisoba savory taste but slightly saltier than I will like to have. Will rate 8/10 (though my little nephew and niece loves it!!!!) ... I probably will not buy it again due to the high price and slightly slightly saltier taste, hahahaha...

Prima - Juzz's Mee Orginal Spicy Flavour Instant Noodles

This is still 1 of the best instant mee-pok (flat noodles) I have tried. The slightly thicker noodles are chewy and bouncy. I cooked for a bit too long, 3 minutes will be good enough (for my noodle texture preference). The seasonings are I added are reduced too. Of the 3 Juzz's Mee flavours, I prefer this most. Hope to receive my haul of Taiwan's instant noodles soon.

Video clip of my preparation of this noodles for lunch...

Genting Trip November / December 2017 - Day 4

DAY 1
Our final day in this Genting trip started off with lunch at "Marry Brown", and we had the 'Nasi Marrybrown' ... sigh, why Singapore don't have this kind of fast food, so good and sufficient portion... hahahaha... and we set off to return to Singapore after lunch..

And before we reach Singapore, we had our dinner at Restoran Pekin... Awesome food!!!!!! That is all I can type now because tired already, hahaha...

And my haul from this trip... very happy trip... hahahaha....

Genting Trip November / December 2017 - Day 3

DAY 3
As my brother and sis-in-law already had breakfast, we decided to have a slightly lesser lunch (actually also so that we can eat other things later, hee hee... ), and after some strolling, we decided to give this small restaurant, tucked in 1 corner, a try... And good thing we did, cos this "Canton-i" restaurant is a gem!!!! The food is quite good!!! Especially their congee / porridge, which I think is top-notch!!!! Very very nice and very happy to find 1 new place to eat good food!!!!... yeap, the abalone fried rice was ordered mainly because we want to have a lavish dish...hahahaha...

And we finally manage to get to eat the Gindaco Takoyaki !!!!! The takoyaki is very nice!!! Especially when the octopus filling is not the tiny bit type and is also flavorful...

And the 2nd snack is "Street Churros" once again, hahahaha....

We went to the Sky Casino for some entertainment, and surprisingly, we discovered yet another place (inside the casino this time) that serves great food!!! Peace cafe is located inside the Silver room, and we actually just want to use the free RM50 voucher redeemed earlier, but when we tasted the polo-bun with butter and club sandwich, we realised the cafe is of a top-notch standard!!!! The polo-bun was so crispy outside and fluffy inside, and the club sandwich replaces the normal ham with tuna and luncheon meat... very very very delicious!! The coffee-tea is also quite silky and smooth... very very nice...

Dinner for Day 3 is at "Spice Garden", after we confirmed that my brother and sis-in-law are okay with Indian food... And they are quite impressed with the food quality served there!!!!
