$1.30 Dim Sum Bedok North Outlet $1.30 点心

Wanted to take a stroll after some bad incident that happened and solved (I hoped, nothing bad to happen nor continue).  Previously, discovered this $1.30 Dim Sum that some Youtubers mentioned and after a bit of research, realised there is an outlet in Bedok North. So decided to walk there and had brunch. There is a queue of about 4~5 in front of me, but takes about 2 minutes before my turn to order. Took about 5 minutes for my items to be ready for collection. Overall taste is good. After taking into consideration the $1.30 price, it is great!!!!

(1) Siew Mai 烧卖 - Cute "fish roe" on top. Contains meat, portion piece of prawn and 1 small bit of mushroom. Surprisingly, the first piece I tasted is very "umami" (msg ???) , but the 2nd and 3rd one is less so. Overall is still good though! In fact, it taste better than the one sold in the kopitiam near my house, which costs $2...

(2) Prawn Dumpling 虾饺 - shape is not similar to what we normally see as a Har Gow.  The skin is a little on the chewier side, but not bad. Quite good prawn fillings in quantity and bits of pepper enhances the taste. Quite good too!

(3) Chicken Glutinous Rice 糯米鸡 - I think it is the top orangy-red colour surface makes it easily be mistaken as fan-choy. But it is Lor Mai Gai. Can taste the rice is fresh, i.e. not those mushy ones you get from the frozen versions. Got 1 small piece of mushroom. Chicken meat can taste a bit of the wine used as marinate/seasoning. A bit bland overall, so for me, this is the only dish I need to dip (the rice alone) into the chilli sauce (if rice is not eaten with the chicken meat). But the biggest sparkle is that it is not oily, compared to normal Lor Mai Gais.

(4) Prawn Chee Cheong Fun 肠粉虾 - Skin is soft, but a bit thick. still ok. I believe the prawn fillings is same as the ones used for Har Gow. Soy sauce gravy is ok, nothing bad, and nothing special. Still quite ok for taste.

(5) Chicken Feet 凤爪 - May have pre-fried the chicken feet a bit too long, so the skin is a bit "rugged" ( 韧 ). Taste is ok, on the sweeter side. The black fermented bean ( 豆豉 ) can be accompanied with the feet, to add a bit more savoury/saltish taste. But don't eat it too much, else will taste too strong and over-powered the feet.

(6) Fried Yam Dumpling 芋角 - good flaky outside skin, though has a bit of hardened skin, probably because of the time that has passed. Can still taste the good taste of yam skin beneath the crust. Filling is still moist. Quite ok.

Old Street Bak Kut Teh 老街肉骨茶 Paya Lebar Quarter Mall PLQ Outlet

Went on my urban hike today (10 Apr 2021). Had wanted to brunch at the Feng Sheng Hao there but was amazed and put off by the crowd, so decided to try this instead. Turned out to be blessing in disguised, as this outlet serves some pretty good Bak Kut Teh !!! But I am still a fan of the dark herbal soup version.

Cycling Trip - East Coast Park to Changi Jurassic Mile to Jewel Changi Airport 3rd April 2021

Finally embarked on this trip that was planned long time ago... Did not regret going on Saturday instead of the Good Friday holiday nor on Sunday as Saturday is not crowded... Well, still crowded, as I had intended to have my breakfast at Hub and Spoke Cafe, but ... turns out to be good, as I had my brunch at A&W instead... long long time since I last dine at A&W... nostalgic...  Looking forward to next trip, but likely to be long time, as next holiday is very close to my 2nd dose of vaccination...
