CNY 2016 Deocrations at Chinatown...

Ah Kow Mushroom Minced Pork Mee @ Hong Lim Market & Food Centre

Tried out this stall last Sunday... very nice Bak Chor Mee (minced pork mee) ...

I ordered the $5 one, and it proved to be just nice in size for breakfast... A variety of noodles are available for choosing, and I decided on the traditional mee-pok...

Strictly speaking, the mee-pok did not meet my expectation in mind, as I felt it was a little little too soft, but still got some springy texture... The sauce is fragrance with adequate black vinegar, and a nice savory taste... Oh, the sauce also has a strange but good "charred" fragrance... The chilli is quite ok and not too spicy... Though small in size, the mushrooms are quite juicy without being too salty, and a light "lor" taste... The lean meat is cooked to quite tender, much to my surprise...

The dumplings seem to be the same as the Teochew dumplings soup the stall is also selling. The dumpling skin is slightly thicker (but not soggy) and the meat filling is almost the same amount as typical stalls. However, the taste is surprisingly good, savory with strong fried sole fish flavour!!!! Speaking of the sole fish, there are quite generous slices of fried sole fish scattered in the bowl, and man, the nice fragrance and taste can linger in your mind long after you finish the meal (though some may feel a little bitter taste at first)...

Lastly the soup... not much special on its own, but when the seaweed is soaked in it for some time, the soup has a good seaweed flavour...

Next stall to try is probably the Tai Wah BCM....
