Bodyguards & Assassins

Caught the movie last night..ad that is one good show!!!! Extremely when compared to the Storm Warriors... Plot is good - It does not just show the day when Sun Yat Sen arrives, but lays the storyline to progress & tells the events leading to how the protection will come, 4 days earlier, day by day...; Acting is good - You compare Nicholas Tse and Simon Yam's acting in this show vs that in the Storm Warriors, man, its completely entirely on a 2 extreme different levels... ; Characters are well defined - you will know and uderstand why they will want to sacrifie to protect Sun Yat Sen... compared to the lousy Storm Warriors whom you don't even know 80% of the haracter if you don't follow the comics... negative points will be the way Leon is protrayed like Stephen CHow in his final part in Kung Fu, I mean, suddenly showing a person who can almost fly and miraculously balance on a small surface... and lousy censorship board's cutting, so choppy... overall, deserves the 4 star ratings many critics in newspapers give...

Storm Warriors (aka Storm Riders II, aka Comedy 300)

Meet up with old bros HZ and ZW last nite to catch the Storm Warriors, aka... read title above... its a complete lousy movie.. maybe only the fighting graphics are still ok... No plot or story-line (unless you have read the comics before), sudden appearance of characters even in beginning of show.. shaky camera where it is supposed to be smooth... female vases, one character who died in the end is even protrayed as idiotic... she rush up the mountain all the way, and naively thought that by speaking to the demonised Wind, she can talk him to return to sane... and stupidly turn her back to the demonised Wind... wah lau... and probably this may have a part 3 (oh no...) as the Heartless just grab the dragon-bone but did not tell what happens in the movie...

Anyway, main part is to meet up with old bros and kopi-chat... and hope this Fri catching the Bodyguards & Assassins will be better...

Lunch Today...

Was on course today in West Coast with cousin... Drove to West Coast Plaza to have lunch... Passed by "Prosperous Kitchen" (天旺) Chinese restaurant, and saw they have a UOB Card 1-for-1 Set-lunch promotion... 2 types, $28.80++ and $38.80++... Chose the latter, because got shark's fin soup! So lunch is sumptuous today...

(Compulsory Appetizer) Braised Peanuts : Warm ones!!! Not the cold cold type!!! nice too...

(Appetizer) Turkey Salad : Salad has nata-de-coco!!! Turkey (duck??) meat not bad too...

Red-wine Sharks fins soup : nice.................................. :) (pic below)

Healthy Fried Rice : Not so saltish, so quite healthy, I guess... hahaha... not too bad, as it is meant to be eaten with the dishes...

Fried Vegetables with Mushroom: Got wok-hei (镬气)!!!! Mushroom is the fresh one, nice....

Scallops with Mint Sauce : Scallop is good!!! must eat together with the green & red lantern pepper & mint sauce! (pic below)

(Dessert) White Fungus Almond Cream : Quite nice & nourishing... the paste is not smooth & can see traces of the almond nuts' skin, so guess it is freshly made, hmmm...

Genting Trip over Long Weekend

Went to my long-awaited trip to Genting the past weekend... Quite cool there... Did not take much pictures this time...

... Breakfast for Day 1... around 5am... the roti canai (prata) is big... so we shared among 5 of us...

Took the Genting Skyway down to Awana.. super long queue especially when return back from Awana.. took 1/2 hr to queue...

My favourite "hobby" there - coffee and toast... It's at the Old Town White Coffee house...

This pic is taken after a buffet dinner... Foggy...

..yes, Christmas is near, so all the Christmas decos are up and coming...

These wall decos are supposedly to represent BIG nails, to "钉死" the casino customers to "contribute" towards the continuation of Genting casinos.. I think it worked well ... hahaha...

Santa Clause!!!!!

Just before the entrance of the casino, they actually doll up the God of Wealth (财神) to be a Santa Clause!!!

... one of the very worth meal taken in Genting... Tenpanyaki set.. For about SGD $8 plus, this is what you get, as seen here!!!!

... "special" present from the trip... yeah, slip a step while boarding down the bus, and sprain my ankle... sigh, spend $25 to see the sin-seh...

SITEX 2009 - Haul...

Today is the first day of SITEX 2009. Went down to get a long-planned pico-projector... Last time actually tempted to buy the Aiptek one, but after some considerations to brightness, battery charging, etc, decided to get wait for Sitex to get the 3M MPRO120 pico-projector...

Below shows the pico-projector.. no, I am not going to do a review of it (no time, I am leaving S'pore tonite soon) and I also have not fully tested the projector yet. Anyway, it is really small, just slightly bigger and thicker than a candy bar handphone... Can play thru' VGA (with a audio plug) for computer, RCA (Yellow, Red, White) for DVD players... can play-&-charge at same time... ok, good enough for me...

Tested in my room with the 1st TF movie DVD.. Looks very dim because it is bright noon, even I block my room window with garbage the room still is quite bright, but trust me, actual environment is not as bright as in the picture...

... Guess who is in the screen???

... will test again soon...

Sunday's Bicycle Trip...

... was a fun trip! Its been about 6 ~ 7 years ago that I last cycle (over at ECP)... tested out my new folding Aleoca bike... yeah, the $368 one, with Shimano gear shift... not bad, gears change quite smoothly... except forgotten to fine-tune the joints, and the front steering 2-piece (vertical) slipped out (have since tuned the 2 set screws (aka grub screws, you know, the headless ones that needs Allen keys as screw driver).. however, noticed that one side of the metal piece (ring-shape), that holds the big pin that swivels, is "broken"... hope it will not affect the steering in long run... Below is a "half-pic"... yeah, SD Card is ... sigh...

Bought some accessories, front light, bell (yeah, need a bike, cannot keep using my mouth for bell)... using an old chain lock, seems reliable enough... Hopefully can go soon, Sunday??

Aleoca Folding Bicycle

Bought a Aleoca folding bicycle at Expo, where Robinson's having a sales... actually not really sales, price not that attractive... anyway, paid $368 for this, plus a back red light for $7...

Going to test it out this Sunday... hope I am "motivated" enough to wake up... Yeah, surf the net and saw a lot of negative comments about this brand... will reserve my comments till after I tried out...

... Next, went to a temple... sipposed to have 108 gods' statues... or rather 108 joss sticks pots... can't remember...

After heading to local speciality shops for some local delights and a lousy shopping centre at Jusco, went to have dinner at below's restaurant...

Nice trip....

Today's Brunch

Went to Bugis to jalan jalan today... initially wanted to wake up earlier, but was too sleepy, so oink on and woke up 9am plus, hahaha... So went over and saw this huge mooncake, rotating, so cute....

Mid-autumn festival coming soon, what is more fun than playing with the lanterns... that is, if you are old enough, dun think the young kids love to ...

... decided to have lunch before hunting for some DVDs... Went to the Mongkok Char Chan Teng, at Bugis Junction... Ordered a Blue Ocean drink... taste like...sprite...

... and curry fishbalss... not as chewy as expected, more like the fluffy typical Singaporean style... curry is fragrane lah, not your typical local curry hor, dun be mistaken...

.... main dish is Cheese Baked Pork-chop Rice w/ Pumpkin sauce... nice... pumpkin sauce adds the fragrance and sweetness, and little shreds of pumpkins can be seen... the rice is simple fried rice with egg... overall is tasty...

GPS - Ovi Maps - N82 (old batch)

I am always amazed by new things & technology. So when i bought my N82 last March, i was pleasantly surprise to know it has GPS, and AGPS (though not really know what AGPS is). But i had thought using GPS need to pay monthly subscription fees, or something, so i never explore the Maps function. Then mid this yr i went to KL for my friend's wedding wif my grp of close friends, & 1 of them use his handphone as GPS device. Only then i know using GPS is free. But i didn't really explore until few days ago my cousins bought the 6110, & they show me the GPS function, which the shop staff help explain to them briefly how to use. So after some fiddling, let me share here, esp. for those who are not comfortable to play with GPS in ur N82, esp older batch without the new Ovi maps.

1. Download installer file of Nokia's Maps UPDATER, not Loader, from Nokia website on Nokia Map. Dun worry if the page shows Ovi stuff, its correct . Install in your computer.

2. Connect N82 to computer thru' PC Suite mode. Run Nokia Maps Updater. This will install Maps 3.0 if u are using an old N82. Maps 3.0 is faster when moving about in the map than version 2. Old outdated maps will be deleted, & new ones in. Beware! May take a few hours!!

3. Once done, remove N82 to use. Start up Maps in N82, 1st time will prompt u if u want to connect online when startup. Select NEVER (if u only want to use GPS which is free, else AGPS may be used, and that needs $). Should u strike lottery & want to try, u can always go online easily...

4. To be on the safe side, use Map Loader to load the maps you need if you are going overseas:
(a) Download Nokia Map Loader installer file. Install the program.
(b) Connect N82 to computer thru' Data Transfer mode. Run Nokia Map Loader.
(c) Select the maps u need. Avoid voices, navigation if you just need GPS id only.

There, done! Now you can use your N82 as GPS. I tested it today, went to Marine Parade, and it located my position very fast... Hope this helps...

Flexible Keyboard

Today is a public holiday, cos yesterday is National Day. So went over to Parkway Parade for brunch with folks and jalan... Went over to Popular... and saw this flexible keyboard, very cute, but should have gotten the mini keyboard perhaps... a bit no space here, hahaha... Yes, am typing these texts here with this keyboard...

...so now I have a big screen to complement my 7" notebook... and a keyboard so that I can type more conveniently without shifting the body when typing...
