Wanted to have a walk at Chinatown today... And was quite surprised to see that Hans at Great Eastern Building is closed... not sure if it is for renovation or for good... so went over to Hong Lim Market and Food Centre for breakfast... Finally decided to try the prawn mee soup... and choose this stall: The Old Stall Hokkien Street Famous Hokkien Prawn Mee...
Ordered the normal noodles+beehoon, soup version, $4... Quite an ok choice! Here's the summary:
(1) 5 pieces of 1/2 prawns
(2) 4 pieces of thin-sliced meat (pork)
(3) Soup has a lighter flavour with a light fragrance; has a slight "fishy-prawny" smell if inhale strong from a close distance; seems clear at first but turns a bit of "murky" at near of end of meal; no "heaty" feel after drinking, so drank almost all the soup; no distinct taste of MSG (so the claim of no MSG at the stall's poster could be true...)
(4) Noodles and beehoon are cooked just nice...
(5) Includes some bean sprouts and a few strands of kangkong... and fried shallots...
Will still go back again, because seldom can find a prawn mee stall that has soup without "heaty" feel...
Went over to Daiso (Chinatown Point) for shopping... and then went to the Hill Street Coffee Shop for steamed bread and Kopi-o... and after some time of being treated like an invisible man, the staff finally ask for my order... and this is not the first time it happened... but the worst is the standard of food quality dips... The steam bread has 1 piece that is SUPER soggy over many areas, which I suspect the water condensation inside the steamer dripped onto the bread surface while steaming... and I don't think it is right to serve your customers food with this quality... the kopi-o is also thinner and quite sour... sigh... Did not finish the food and left... WIll I return to this place again? Hmmm..... I think you also know...
While going to CSC, took a few pics of the Chinese New Year decorations for 2015, which is coming soon after mid Feb...
