Maxmobile 1 Mbps Up & Running

Received the data SIM card from Starhub, and tried using on the old N80, works after some fiddling... Then decided to try on the notebook (SH8), using the N80 as modem ... This time fiddle for LONG time... after numerous, frustration, and worries, its finally up (and now using this connection to write this blog...). For those who also signed up for the Online-Plus/Maxmobile and did not purchase the USB modem stick (heard is $300 ++), and have a spare Nokia 3G/3.5G phone, you may want to try:

(A) Nseries PC Suite

1. Ensure the handphone is able to connect to your notebook/pc, checking thru' the Nseries PC Suit.

2. Set up a new dial-up connection in your notebook/pc. Key in *99# for the dial-up phone number. Leave user-name & password alone (blank). Give it a name of your choice.

3. Press the Connect button to get connected! (I don't know how, maybe the modem uses the data SIM card's Starhub Internet as the default access point...)

(B) PC Suite

1. Connect the handphone to your notebook/pc thru' the PC Suite.

2. Click on the Connect to Internet icon (a green globe with 2 arrows in opposite directions).

3. Click on the Configure icon (spannar-head). Select your handphone to be the modem.

4. Check radio button on "Configure the connection manually". Use shwapint for Access Point.

5. Return to main page and click the Connect (2 arrows in opposite directions) to get connected!

Initially I unknowingly let it autoconnect, then realise the operator is at default at "3. Australia"... but strangely can connect... then I hand itchy and tried selecting Singtel as the operator, thought cannot connect, but strangely, it still connects... weird... decided to play safe and set to maunal configuration... Now hope no charges are incurred because of the wrong connections... wait for next bill see how...

Re-contract Finally!

Finally my broadband service provider called to confirm my broadband re-contract... Waived off data sim card, activation fee, free delivery... in addition to a new HP mini notebook 2133... Sweet... Just in time for my dying Asus laptop... only imperfection that no voucher/nokia phone, nor free cable modem (need to be new signup, according to the staff), but its ok, good enough liao!

Huat ah!

Kohjinsha SH8 Video Playback

Oh, by the way, just to share my personal experience, when initially using the Kohjinsha SH8 to play video, realised that sometimes the video gets laggy in full screen, especially for DVD playback using my external drive... Damn bloody frustrated, as could not find any solutions, after despertely searching all over the internet for solutions... tried all methods, but failed... Just as I was about to give up, at one very special occassion of playing smoothly at full screen, I so happen to noticed that the side of my screen DON'T HAVE THE TABLET PC INPUT PANEL tab!!!! Then I realised this is the little bugger that is causing so much problem!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sometimes when switching to full screen, this little bugger still remain there, and somehow causes the CPU to spend some resources and thus make the video playback laggy!!!! Regardless of the players... Solution for me? If anytime it appears on my fullscreen playback, I double clicked it out and closed it... the fullscreen should not have it anymore and, presto! smooth video playback on fullscreen (even from external DVD player!)!!!!

Just my personal experience to share with all Kohjinsha users, hopefully it will be useful to you too, if you are also experiencing similar problem and failed all solutions... Best of luck!!! :)

p.s. I am not removing the Tablet PC Input Panel cos' I'll need to use it... It's up to you how you want to do with it... :)

Heng ah.... 2 times...

Was working on both my SH8 and old Asus notebook just now when suddenly... Asus starts to reboot... and reboot... and reboot!!! Good thing I got 2nd channel to internet & tried to search for solution... was worried that it might have been a virus... worsen by the fact that cannot start Asus in safe mode... then wondered could it be the wireless connection problem... cos just remembered when tried to unplug the wire cable to use wireless on Asus then it reboot... true enough, I switch off the router, and miraculously, it booted up... Run an update on antivirus, scan the pc, shows nothing... couldn't find any virus created file in the registry as stated in the Norton website... heng ah (no.1) !!!! ... later double confirmed is router's wireless conflict (strange though, cos' yesterday was running fine) ... sigh... Then suddenly remembered that I have a USB wireless adapter stick which was included free with the wireless router!!! Heng ah (no.2) !!!! So I installed, connect, run, and ... it worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sweet... (I know something is wrong, how can previously can work now cannot work... but I give up on this liao, as long as can work, can already (like my SH8 suddenly black out screen after some time when using in battery mode.. shit, dun care liao... too tired....)

Now waiting for broadband service provider to reply my email... hopefully... still got HP mini-notebook in stock... no need to buy USB wireless adapter... waive data sim card... waive activation fees... give free voucher... free delivery... hahahaha..... huat ah!!!!

Finally SH8 Can be Wired!

Yes, finally diagnosed the problem of my new SH8 unable to connect thru' cable to router. after a visit to SMC office... seems that it is the router not compatible with the network adapter... but even the SMC technical staff is not sure, as his test pc is using the same adapter as my SH8's... bought a new router (SMCWBR14S-N2) today & it worked well, wired and wireless, great... so now publishing this post with my new router coonection, using my new SH8...

Speaking of today's haul, morning went over to Suntec's PC Show from school, intending to re-contract my broadband to new one, with freebies like free data sim card, $50 voucher/nokia phone, HP mini-notebook... reached there at about 11am, still got 1 hour before show starts... got a shock when saw the queue has > 30 pple already!!! Give up, boh gian queue up for hours, decided to check out any SMC routers... don't have... sianz... not willing to wait for 1 hour to just go in & see if got mini SD card bargain, (for my old N80 phone, which I thought of converting to a multimedia gadget...) & squeeze like hell... decided to go over to SLS... True enough, managed to get most of what I wanted at SLS... new router, 2 GB micro SD card (w/ mini adapter, so still can use for my old N80 phone)... at reasonable price somemore... sweet...

Waiting eagerly to broadband service provider's email reply for my confirmation to renew contract... hopefully can waived off the data sim card and activation fees, and I definitely will NOT buy the USB modem...

Yeah, tomorrow 1st day of RT... numbed liao... hahaha...

Finally Back!!!

Wow, finally reservist is over... 3 weeks of green-clothes life is defintely something I won't want to try anytime soon.. or at all.... But tough aside, it was quite fun going outfield, get to see cattles (face to face, less than a metre in front..), humongous-size millipedes (1 even got silver in colour... dun know if is sprayed by some jokers over there... but then again, which thai will be so free to do so?? haha... ) , funny insects... Outdoor temperature is 48 degree, in shade 39 degree... freaking hot... but glad is over... Our thai driver (soldier) is 1 fun guy to be with... He actually one day killed a small black cobra and came over to show us, even offered to give us... after that agree to 1 of our friend's request to bbq it... solid... but i din eat lah, dun want to take any risks...

Returning to civilian life was a bit hard to adapt to initially, cos got to get brain to start working again... worse when I just went back to school.. groggy... now better....

Oh, and I finally bought my 1st near-UMPC : Kohjinsha SH8, and also a LG slim dvd writer to go with it... Sweet... just that the LAN is not working to detect the router... luckily wireless LAN is ok... will update the pics later...

Edit: Pics of my new UMPC & DVD writer...

A tablet notebook, less than 1kg with battery, integrated webcam... Some may complain the small screen, but I feel it depends on individual's preference...

LG slim DVD writer... not the newest or fastest, but it'll do just fine... :)
