Received the data SIM card from Starhub, and tried using on the old N80, works after some fiddling... Then decided to try on the notebook (SH8), using the N80 as modem ... This time fiddle for LONG time... after numerous, frustration, and worries, its finally up (and now using this connection to write this blog...). For those who also signed up for the Online-Plus/Maxmobile and did not purchase the USB modem stick (heard is $300 ++), and have a spare Nokia 3G/3.5G phone, you may want to try:
(A) Nseries PC Suite
1. Ensure the handphone is able to connect to your notebook/pc, checking thru' the Nseries PC Suit.
2. Set up a new dial-up connection in your notebook/pc. Key in *99# for the dial-up phone number. Leave user-name & password alone (blank). Give it a name of your choice.
3. Press the Connect button to get connected! (I don't know how, maybe the modem uses the data SIM card's Starhub Internet as the default access point...)
(B) PC Suite
1. Connect the handphone to your notebook/pc thru' the PC Suite.
2. Click on the Connect to Internet icon (a green globe with 2 arrows in opposite directions).
3. Click on the Configure icon (spannar-head). Select your handphone to be the modem.
4. Check radio button on "Configure the connection manually". Use shwapint for Access Point.
5. Return to main page and click the Connect (2 arrows in opposite directions) to get connected!
Initially I unknowingly let it autoconnect, then realise the operator is at default at "3. Australia"... but strangely can connect... then I hand itchy and tried selecting Singtel as the operator, thought cannot connect, but strangely, it still connects... weird... decided to play safe and set to maunal configuration... Now hope no charges are incurred because of the wrong connections... wait for next bill see how...
